Having newer model cars with the latest in technology like HD and satellite radio, Ipod integration and Bluetooth, I was missing these conveniences on my old car. I decided to upgrade a 15 year old Kenwood system, which was already an upgrade from the original factory system to this Kenwood headunit. Installed over the weekend and played around with it for several hours. The conclusion, I am very pleased with it. Here's my review-* HD Radio - Stations are definitely clearer, as long as the signal is good. Big difference from the old analog receiver where I would occassionally get two stations crossing over each other and a lot of static. The HD tuner is fine for my radio listening. * Ipod integration - I tested this connection with a 2nd gen ipod and a 4th gen Ipod touch. There were no big issues. The only thing I should comment on is that the Ipod controls are switchable between the touch and the... Difference is like night and day when comparing the sound I had in the factory Ford system. My Ford speaker system has never had such quality run through them. The HD radio wins hands down. Crystal clear and powerful sound even at a low volume. Bluetooth is fantastic and very clear when calls come in or go out. Very easy to use. Haven't tried the Pandora feature or iPod as I need to get myself into the 21 century when it comes to these devices, but I feel that with the way this system is built, it won't fail me. Has the USB connector that makes it easy to connect a iPod or memeory stick. Has single CD player and that sounded good. The look on the dash with the random lighting display is awesome. Very stylish! Only thing I found negative about this unit, is the clock. Set it, but can't get it to show up on the dash. Maybe I need to read more about how to make it visible but if it can't be visible, I can... Definitely an upgrade and what a nice surprise. For one thing, HD Radio is the best kept secret for car audio. Most local radio stations have at least 3 different streams that are crystal-clear and unavailable on standard analog FM. I've also found that most of these HD stations are commercial-free. I can finally copy my MP3s to a flash drive and plug it into the front USB slot for instant playback and excellent fidelity. Bluetooth capability allows streaming audio from any Bluetooth-enabled device (I use an Android phone) and the ability to take calls via speakerphone, all controlled by the stereo. Aux input accepts a standard 3.5mm cable jack from ANY device with a stereo output. Integrated controls for iPod and Pandora are included. My 2002 Accord came preinstalled with a premium Bose speaker package, but audio was always mediocre with the factory stereo and I never understood... Read more |
