Jay Hunter "Nerd" (DC Metro) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: JVC 7" DVD-CD-USB-SD HD Radio Nav KWNT800HDT (Electronics) Update: April 16, 2012Another Firmware update to this unit, and I think the SD issue is fixed!! I played a 16gb SD card for 6 hours and no reboot issue!!! The fix is this: 1.2.0014.0300 as of Apr. 10, 2012 from JVC's website (amazon removes the links otherwise I would give it to you). The NAVIGATION is SUPERB!!! It got me around a 30 minute traffic jam in the DC area. I just took the next exit, and the unit recalculated the route almost instantly. This is really good, and much faster than my Android is at recalculating routes. This update also makes the traffic more accurate. Side note (I played with the kwnt500hdt, and its the same unit except it has the smaller screen and fewer buttons). The extra money is worth it for the bigger screen and being able to move through songs with a button instead of using the screen. The DSP let me lower the brightness of my tweeters by letting me lower the gain at around 10k of the... The GUI is easy to use, button are big, and the unit is just really really responsive in comparison to the Kenwood unit I was considering. I have this car in my 2011 Honda Civic, and the way it mounts on the dash tilts it at a slight upwards angle, which suffers from quite a bit of glare; HOWEVER, this unit has a negative tilt feature (it can tilt forward), so this helped with a glare a lot. I'm not even sure why other manufacturers (Kenwood, Pioneer, Clarion, etc etc) don't offer this feature. This was a huge selling point for me with this unit. The navigation: Everything is super fast. It searches quickly, calculates the route quickly, etc etc. Everything on the navigation side is almost perfect. Almost. The downside to this product is this: after you have calculated your route, there is no way to see the route via text to see what turns are coming up in after a certain number of miles. You're at the mercy of... While the JVC unit is very nice and has good features for the money, we were very disappointed to find that after installation (2 days work in an un-airconditioned garage in July!) the screen is impossible to use in daylight conditions, even when the convertible top is up. This is due to severe glare reflected from the seats. At night or when driving in dark cloudy conditions, the screen is fine. I have ordered a screen visor to try to install to reduce the glare, but this will not do anything about the seat reflections. Also, though not directly the fault of JVC, I found there the double DIN JVC unit would not clear the vehicle trim by about 1/4 inch when the face plate opens to expose... Read more |
